Tracking Shiawassee County Recent Arrests
The Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail. Its public pages list no searchable roster. No recent-bookings list appears either. Booking-photo results are absent too. That leaves the jail's information line as the first stop for a live custody question. Someone can be processed and held inside the jail's system while no public page shows it. Because nothing displays online, no one can promise a posting lag, a refresh hour, or a weekend pattern for Shiawassee County bookings.
Timing drives the request. A same-day check asks whether a person was just processed. A multi-day search looks for a log or records spanning several dates. Neither window exists as an official county web feed, and each follows a different request path.
| Window | What is available | Best official route |
|---|---|---|
| Today or last 24 hours | No public county feed was located | Call the jail at 989-743-2230 for current custody |
| Several days | No public sheriff blotter was located | Ask sheriff records for arrest and detention log data by date |
| After a court case begins | Case inquiry and court record requests | Use 66th District Court or 35th Circuit Court |
The Arrested Today page covers the phone-first check. Arrest Reports handles wider date ranges. It also takes older log requests. The official Sheriff's Office home page shows the agency identity and its public contact details. Start there for that route. Each page answers a different piece of the arrest question.
This capture helps distinguish the government office from similarly named third-party arrest pages.
Arrested Last Night in Shiawassee County
Call the Shiawassee County Jail first for an overnight arrest. Skip the search engine for now. Give the full name. Add a birthdate or other detail if names overlap. Ask whether the person is held now. Ask which agency lodged them. Note when the answer was checked. A no could mean release, transfer elsewhere, delayed processing, or that booking never happened here.
The jail phone is not an archive. Once someone leaves custody, records requests take over. The Sheriff's Office FOIA channel can release an arrest log, booking card, report, or photograph that law allows. A filed case adds a separate trail through the court docket. For release or transfer alerts, the VINE Arrest Check page explains how to test whether Shiawassee County appears in Michigan's live service.
Shiawassee County Jail Arrest Roster
The official jail page is a services page, not a live roster of Shiawassee County arrests. It is not an online booking list. Visits, calls, mail, and commissary fill the page. Bond payment runs through a kiosk. InmateSales handles communication, remote video visitation, and account services. The sheriff does not describe it as a public arrest lookup tool. The sheriff's site lists no booking-search app either, so a phone call remains the reliable route.
| Roster field | Public Shiawassee County status |
|---|---|
| Name or booking number search | No public field located |
| Booking date or arresting agency | No public result table located |
| Charge, bond, or release date | No public result table located |
| Booking photograph | No public jail gallery or display policy located |
| Update time and record persistence | Not published on the reviewed jail and records pages |
A short sequence covers every arrest question. First, call 989-743-2230 about current county custody. Second, note the answer time and the agency. Third, use sheriff records once the person leaves live custody or paperwork is needed. Fourth, the court record holds charges and outcome. Fifth, MDOC OTIS applies only after state prison custody or supervision begins. The official Shiawassee County Jail page posts the inmate-information line and the services actually offered.
Use the page for a phone-first custody check, and do not mistake it for a live booking list.
Where Shiawassee Arrest Information Appears
No single source covers every custody stage. News reports can help. The sheriff holds jail and law-enforcement records, the courts hold case files, and MDOC holds state corrections data, so those offices remain the real record keepers.
| Channel | Photo? | Status | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sheriff jail phone | No public display | Official | Confirm current county custody |
| Sheriff records and FOIA | May be requested | Official | Ask for an existing booking or arrest record |
| MiCOURT and county courts | Generally not a photo source | Official | Follow case events and disposition |
| MDOC OTIS | Some profiles may show an image | Official state source | Search sentenced prisoners and MDOC supervision, not county bookings |
| The Shiawassee Current | Its standards reject mugshots | Independent news | Use stories as leads and verify against official records |
| Mugshots.com county section | Older images may appear | Unofficial and visibly stale | Do not treat it as proof of current custody or case outcome |
The Shiawassee Current public-safety section reports local events across Owosso, Durand, Corunna, and nearby communities.
Its reporting can flag an agency or a case number. Still, a news item is not the jail's arrest record.
Recent Arrests by Shiawassee County City
City records start with the arresting agency. County custody questions go to the jail. None of the three city police pages posts a public booking-photo roster, and that shared gap does not make the cities interchangeable.
- Owosso Recent Arrests explains the Owosso Department of Public Safety route and its Neighborhood Crime Report context.
- Durand Recent Arrests covers Durand Police Department contacts, records, and the county-jail fallback.
- Corunna Recent Arrests covers the Corunna Police Department and the county jail in the county seat.
For each city, confirm which agency lodged the person. A city arrest can still create a county jail record. The agency's incident report and the jail's intake record remain separate documents.
Inside a Shiawassee County Arrest Record
Michigan's retention schedule for law enforcement spells out what an arrest file can hold. Names, dates, charges, and outcomes may appear in detention logs. A fuller inmate jacket is possible too. It can contain booking cards and photographs. Classification papers, court documents, bonds, warrants, arrest cards, and release forms can appear as well. Nothing guarantees every field in every file, though. "May" is the operative word in Shiawassee County until a particular record is actually opened.
| Field | What it shows and how to verify it |
|---|---|
| Name and identifier | The intake identity and any assigned booking number; confirm spelling and aliases |
| Booking date and time | When jail processing occurred, which may differ from the arrest time |
| Lodging agency | The agency that brought the person to the jail; ask the jail or records unit |
| Charges as booked | Accusations recorded at intake, not convictions |
| Bond or release condition | A custody condition that should be checked against the court |
| Case number and date | The bridge to MiCOURT and the correct local court |
| Booking image | A photograph that may exist in an agency record even though none is displayed online |
| Disposition or release | A later event; leaving jail does not prove the case ended |
Shiawassee County Mugshots and Arrest Photos
The sheriff's public jail page shows no booking photos and posts no online photo policy. A mugshot may still sit in the file itself. Michigan's Attorney General FOIA guidance points to court decisions on booking photographs. Certain county booking photographs count as public records. That includes photos of people charged with felonies and awaiting trial. Those rulings never promise release in every case. Juvenile material, sealed cases, protected victim details, and active investigations can all block access or force redaction.
Ask the Sheriff's Office records or FOIA route for the exact image. Name the person, the approximate booking date, and any case number. Specify the precise record you want. The agency then decides what can come out. An old commercial copy of a booking photo can linger long after a case changes, so treat it as history rather than a sign of current custody.
MDOC OTIS works differently. It may show an identifying image for someone in the state offender system. MDOC notes that OTIS leaves out people held only in county jails or city lockups. Some people without electronic photographs are left out too. The Bureau of Prisons locator and the ICE detainee locator answer custody questions. Neither is a public booking-photo gallery. No photographs are hosted or republished here.
Request a Shiawassee County Booking File
The Sheriff's Office splits live jail information from document access. Its records page posts $10 police reports and $15 fingerprint cards. No flat price covers every booking photo, though. Michigan FOIA allows charges for search, review, redaction, copying, and mailing under the agency's policy. Expect a written estimate past $50. A deposit can be required at that point too.
- Check the official sheriff records page and decide whether a routine report request or FOIA request fits.
- Describe the record narrowly, including the person, date range, arresting agency, and known report or case number.
- Specify whether the request seeks an arrest log entry, booking card, photograph, release form, or police report.
- Send the request through the Sheriff’s Office FOIA route at 201 E. McArthur Street, Corunna, MI 48817; the listed fax is 989-743-6423.
- Keep the submission and response. A public body generally must respond within five business days by granting, denying, partly granting, requesting a deposit, or extending the response period by up to ten business days.
The records counter opens weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. County holidays close it. A response deadline is not a guaranteed delivery date, since exemptions or clarification can shape the result. The official records page lists the records contact and its posted service fees.
Need the paper trail itself? This route turns a live custody question into an actual copy of an existing sheriff record.
Michigan Law, Retention, and Corrections
Michigan has no specific anti-pay-to-remove mugshot statute. MCL 445.1711 should not be cited as one. Access instead turns on Michigan FOIA, its exemptions, the status of the record, MCL 28.243 arrest biometric and disposition procedures, court set-aside law, and each publisher's own correction policy. Start there.
A set-aside conviction is filed with the sentencing court. Michigan's Clean Slate system also clears eligible convictions automatically. Private copies do not vanish at once. Clearing a conviction also will not fix an inaccurate arrest story. Ask the originating office to correct its record first. Then hand any private publisher the court order or agency correction through a documented free process. Skip services that charge while promising guaranteed deletion.
Juvenile and withheld records need special care. MCL 28.243 covers arrest cards, biometric data, and dismissed charges. It makes no arrest image a public web item. Sealed matters and protected identities may be withheld. Very old court and prison material may require an Archives of Michigan route. Recent sheriff and court files stay with the office that created them.
Shiawassee County Warrants and Wanted Status
Shiawassee County publishes no public warrant portal, most-wanted list, update schedule, reward program, or recurring social feature. The county prosecutor's office explains the split. A court authorizes a warrant, the police agency locates and arrests the person, and prosecutors cannot tell callers whether a named warrant exists. A commercial warrant result is no confirmation.
For a status question, work through the handling agency and the court. The 66th District Court and MiCOURT cover district cases. The 35th Circuit Court handles felonies and high-court misdemeanors. A docket entry can show activity. It does not prove a warrant is still active. If the question concerns you personally, call the court or a lawyer for safe steps. Never approach someone you believe is wanted.
The county prosecutor's official FAQ explains how warrant responsibility is divided locally.
For non-emergency questions, call the sheriff main line at 989-743-3411; anonymous tips go to 989-720-8477.
After a Shiawassee County Arrest
A booking file and a court file answer different questions. In Shiawassee County, the 66th District Court handles several case types. Adult misdemeanors carry up to a year. Traffic matters land there too. So do felony preliminary examinations and certain civil work. Felonies and high-court misdemeanors go to the 35th Circuit Court. The district court sits at 110 E. Mack Street in Corunna and can be reached at 989-743-2395.
Getting the court record works differently than getting a booking record. Michigan's judicial branch is exempt from FOIA. Even so, most court files stay open. A statute, court rule, or court order can still close them. Send a criminal record request to D66ct@shiawassee.net. Include your contact details and case or party information. Describe the file, document, transcript, or register of actions you need.
| Status | Best source | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Just booked | Shiawassee County Jail | Intake may still be underway |
| In county custody | Jail information line | Current holding status, subject to change |
| Released | Sheriff record plus court docket | Custody ended; the case may continue |
| Sentenced to state custody | MDOC OTIS | State prison or supervision status |
| Federal or immigration custody | BOP or ICE locator | A separate government system |
ICHAT plays a different role. The county prosecutor describes it as a $10 service. It updates daily and covers Michigan arrests that ended in a conviction. Arrests without conviction, warrants, federal arrests, and out-of-state matters are all left out. It will not show you a same-day Shiawassee County arrest.
Michigan, Federal, and Immigration Custody
State and federal systems each track a narrow slice of custody. The Michigan Department of Corrections runs the Offender Tracking Information System. Searches use name, offender number, sex, race, age, status, and identifying marks. OTIS helps once a person enters MDOC custody or supervision. It does not hold county jail inmates. People sentenced only to jail are missing too. Some offenders without electronic photos are also left out. For a fresh Shiawassee County arrest, the county jail comes first.
The federal picture splits further. The Bureau of Prisons locator finds federal inmates from 1982 forward. Search it by name or register number. A result marked released does not rule out custody elsewhere. ICE's detainee locator needs one of two search paths. Use a nine-digit A-number with a country of birth. Or use an exact name, country of birth, and date of birth. Anyone under 18 cannot be searched there. The U.S. Marshals Service moves and holds federal detainees but posts no national county-style roster.
No single system replaces the Sheriff's Office. What can booking photos show? See the Shiawassee County mugshots and booking photos discussion above.
Local Reporting and Arrest Trends
No countywide booking total has a published source. The same goes for daily averages, offense rankings, and seasonal booking patterns. Isolated news stories do not add up to a trend. Michigan State Police Crime Data Explorer figures measure reported incidents and enforcement activity. They do not show who is currently held in the Shiawassee County Jail. Arrest reports also mirror policing practices, reporting choices, and agency jurisdiction.
The Shiawassee Current covers local public safety. It states that it publishes no mugshots and does not identify minors. Its scanner page carries preliminary dispatch information. A dispatch call may end with no arrest. It may fall in another jurisdiction or shift as facts develop. Confirm any event with the lodging agency, the sheriff record, and the court.
Release ends a jail status. The booking record, court case, and later disposition each follow their own retention and access rules.
